Wellbeing and Pastoral Care

At Al Salam Community School, we believe that wellbeing is the foundation of outstanding learning and achievement. Our commitment is rooted in the belief that every pupil must feel safe, valued, and respected to reach their full potential. This comprehensive approach to Wellbeing and Pastoral Care is seamlessly integrated with our core school values, ensuring we support the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of every child.

We foster a caring community where pupils are supported in making responsible choices, managing their emotions, and building resilience for life beyond school. Our systems are designed to provide both universal support for all pupils and targeted intervention for those who need it most.

Our Wellbeing and Pastoral Care framework is defined by the following key policies, which work together to create a positive and supportive school culture:

Defines our holistic approach, centered around models like PERMA, to develop pupil resilience, self-confidence, and agency. It outlines how we support the psychological, cognitive, social, and physical health of every pupil.

Ensures all current pupils have a clear entitlement to professional counselling services. This policy details how pupils can access support, how needs are assessed, and the procedures that guarantee confidentiality and effective intervention.

Every child deserves to feel safe, valued and respected. Guided by our Caring Hearts Framework and Islamic and British values, we promote kindness, inclusion and respect in all relationships.

Bullying of any kind is not tolerated. Through wellbeing lessons, assemblies and the Komodo platform, we actively teach empathy, monitor student wellbeing and respond swiftly to any concern.

Together with parents, we build a caring community where students are confident, supported and free to thrive.

Focuses on high expectations of behaviour built on mutual trust and respect. The policy provides guidance on helping pupils manage their behaviour, understand consequences, and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning where every member feels safe and happy.
