Safer Recruitment

At Al Salam Community School, keeping children safe is at the heart of everything we do. A safe and caring environment begins with the people we choose to work with our students. Every member of our staff team — whether in teaching, support, or leadership — plays a vital role in shaping the wellbeing and success of our learners. For that reason, we apply a rigorous safer recruitment process that ensures all those who join our school are not only skilled and qualified, but also share our values of integrity, respect, and accountability.

Our approach recognises that safeguarding begins long before a child enters the classroom. By ensuring careful background checks, transparent communication, and continuous training, we create a culture where safety, professionalism, and care go hand in hand. This reflects our broader vision to nurture an inclusive learning community, leading excellence with Islamic values, and our commitment to the highest international standards of child protection.

Our Recruitment Approach

Recruitment across all Al Salam schools is guided by the Al Salam Education Central HR Office, which oversees recruitment for Al Salam Community School. The Safer Recruitment Policy, developed and reviewed centrally by Salam Education, ensures consistency, fairness, and compliance with UAE legislation and international safeguarding best practice.

Each vacancy is carefully approved, advertised, and managed in line with the policy. All job advertisements include a safeguarding statement to make clear our expectation that every employee upholds the duty to protect and promote the welfare of children. Candidates undergo a multi-step selection process which includes application screening, structured interviews, verification of professional references, and background checks. Every shortlisted candidate is asked to explain any gaps in employment history and provide verified qualifications.

Our Verification and Vetting Standards

Al Salam Community School is totally committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and expects the same from its employees. Before joining the school, all successful applicants must provide:

Contractors, supply staff, and volunteers are also subject to appropriate vetting and supervision, ensuring that anyone who works with or near students meets the same high standards.

Our Ongoing Commitment

Our safer recruitment procedures do not end once employment begins. Every member of staff takes part in annual safeguarding and child protection training, designed to refresh knowledge, promote awareness, and ensure vigilance across all areas of school life. The HR and leadership teams monitor compliance through the Single Central Record, maintained on-site, to confirm that all safeguarding and recruitment checks are up to date.

By following these steps, we ensure that our community remains a place where children are safe, supported, and able to thrive. Our recruitment practices reflect our belief that protecting children is everyone’s responsibility and that only through diligence, transparency, and care can we uphold the trust that families place in us.
